63-year-old man shot to death by Tuscumbia police following standoff

A 63-year-old man was shot and killed Tuesday evening by Tuscumbia police following an hourlong standoff.

Tuscumbia Police Chief Tony Logan said the shooting happened at about 7:45 p.m. at a home in the 100 block of Walker Avenue.

Police were called after the man threatened family members, Logan said.

The man, whose name has not yet been released, was armed, and police had been to the home before in similar circumstances, according to Logan.

There were no other injuries in the incident.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is investigating. The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave with pay.
