60-year-old woman killed in north Alabama house fire
A woman died Tuesday in a house fire in north Alabama, fire officials said Wednesday.
Piedmont police, fire and EMS personnel were dispatched Tuesday to Greenwood Road in Piedmont on a call of a structure fire with a person possibly trapped in the house, the Piedmont Fire Department said.
Authorities who arrived on the scene were told a woman was trapped in the home.
Piedmont firefighters and police “made several attempts to reach the victim but were unsuccessful,” the fire department said.
After an hours-long search and rescue operation, Rhodes was found in the home. She was pronounced dead.
The fire was under investigation as of Wednesday.
