A 60-year-old man was killed when his car struck the rear of a school bus in Blount County.

Alabama State Troopers identified the victim as Gary B. Reid. He lived in Hayden.

The crash happened at 2:55 p.m. Monday on Alabama 160 near Windsong Lane, about four miles east of Hayden, said Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey.

Reid was driving a Toyota Camry when he hit the 2019 Freightliner Thomas school bus driven by 35-year-old Jana R. Short of Blountsville.

After the initial impact, Bailey said, Reid’s car left the road and struck an embankment. Reid, who was not using his seat belt, was pronounced dead on the scene.

There were students on the bus at the time of the crash, but they were not injured.
