6 teens arrested in Dothan with 6 guns, including AR-15 style rifle, after shootings

Six juveniles are in custody and six guns seized – including an AR-15 style rifle – following ongoing investigations into shooting incidents in Dothan.

All of those arrested are under the age of 16.

The Dothan Police Department’s Special Response Team and Aviation Unit carried out two search warrants at homes on Hutchins Street and Lingo Street, police announced Thursday.

Lt. Scott Owens said the raids resulted from the investigations of various shootings by the Criminal Investigation Division, as well as the department’s Gun Unit.

“The Gun Unit has worked tirelessly to find those responsible for shootings in Dothan and take action,’’ Owens said.

The two search warrants led to the confiscation of five handguns and the AR-15 style rifle.

The names of the young suspects are not being released because of their ages.

The charges against them include second-degree receiving stolen property for stolen guns, certain persons forbidden to carry firearms, third-degree burglary and marijuana possession.

Owens said Chief William Benny and the entire department remains committed to keeping the community safe.
