6 indicted for murder-for-hire in shootings that killed 2 at Mobile nightclubs, Mississippi casino
Six people are facing federal charges in connection with murder-for-hire plots that led to the deaths of two people and injuries to several others in shootings at two Mobile nightclubs and a Gulf Coast Mississippi casino, according to court records.
The six defendants — John Fitzgerald McCarroll; Reginald Dennis Alan Fluker; Darrius Dwayne Rowser; Karmelo Cortez Morris Derks; Jimaurice Pierce; and Lyteria Isheeia Hollis — were indicted under seal on Sunday because they had not been arrested at the time of the charges, records showed.
The case was unsealed on Tuesday.
The indictment filed in Mobile federal court did not provide any details about the incidents and only listed victims by their initials. According to the indictment, four people were injured and two people were killed in Alabama and Mississippi in connection with the conspiracy.
Fox 10 reported the indictments stem from the shootings at Bank Nightclub and Paparazzi Club in Mobile and the Scarlet Pearl Casino in D’Iberville, Mississippi and that authorities labeled McCarroll as the mastermind of the incidents.
Derek Shavers died after he was shot at Bank Nightclub on Sept. 18, 2022, while four people were injured in the Paparazzi Club shooting in November, including one critically.
Nicholaus “Nick” Craig, a Mobile native who was a California resident at the time of his death, was shot while sitting in his car in the parking lot of the Scarlet Pearl casino in D’Iberville in September 2022.
Craig stopped at the casino with his girlfriend and had planned to later drive to Mobile to celebrate his birthday with his family, WLOX reported.
Three of the defendants — Derks, Pierce and Rowser — were already facing state charges in connection with the Mobile Walmart shooting in December that injured two people.
Two defendants — McCarroll and Rowser — were also previously charged by Mobile police in connection with the November shooting at the Paparazzi Club.
McCarroll, Fluker, Rowser, Pierce and Hollis were federally indicted Sunday with conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire.
McCarroll and Fluker also face murder-for-hire charges that prosecutors say led to the death of one of the people with the same initials listed in the conspiracy charge.
Rowser and Derks were charged with conspiracy to commit carjacking and interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle involving a 2010 blue Nissan Altima driven from Mobile to D’Iberville, Mississippi, according to the indictment.
McCarroll and Rowser were charged with murder-for-hire in connection with an incident that injured four people.
McCarroll and Hollis, who Fox 10 identified as McCarroll’s girlfriend, were also charged with obstruction and witness tampering.
Meanwhile, Pierce was charged with possession of an unregistered firearm and illegal possession of a machinegun for allegedly having a “Glock switch.”
