59-year-old man charged in December cutting death of one man, wounding of another

A 59-year-old man in custody in the December stabbing death of one man, and the wounding of another.

Valley Police Capt. Chris Daniel on Monday announced the arrest of Lenzy Felix Mayhand. The suspect is charged with reckless murder in the December 2022 slaying of 23-year-old Dalton Alexander Stringfellow of Salem.

Stringfellow was found unresponsive in a ditch on County Road 196 and pronounced dead.

A 27-year-old man who had been with Stringfellow was treated at the scene. Court records say he had been across the chest, just below his throat.

Mayhand is charged with assault in the case of the surviving victim.

Investigators received information that Mayhand could be in the Columbus area, Daniel said. They were able to capture him on Friday.

Mayhand remains held in the Chambers County Jail. Prosecutors are asking that he be held without bond, stating that he is a flight risk because he eluded capture for four months.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Valley police at 334-756-5200 or Central Alabama Crime Stoppers at 334-215-STOP.
