59-year-old identified as man fatally shot at east Birmingham motel

Authorities have released the name of a man killed in a shooting at an east Birmingham motel.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Marcus Hill. He was 59 and lived in Brookside.

East Precinct officer were dispatched at 11:51 a.m. Tuesday to the Roadway Inn and Suites at 9225 Parkway East.

When police arrived, said Sgt. LaQuitta Wade, they found Hill unresponsive on the third-floor balcony. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced him dead on the scene at 12:12 p.m.

Wade said it appears the victim was involved in a verbal altercation with the suspect before the fatal shots were fired.

The suspect left the scene. No arrests have been announced.

Hill is Birmingham’s 113th homicide this year. Of those, one was an officer-involved shooting by an outside law enforcement agency and eight others have been ruled justifiable and therefore aren’t deemed criminal.

In all of Jefferson County, there have been 159 homicides, including the 113 in Birmingham.
