A suspect has been charged in the weekend shooting death of another man in Midfield.

Reuben Gerard Gillam, 57, is charged with murder in the Saturday slaying of 38-year-old Anthony Derrell Young.

Just before 3 a.m. Saturday, Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 1200 block of Eighth Avenue in Midfield on reports of someone shot during an argument.

Deputies got to the location and found Young suffering from a gunshot wound, said Lt. Joni Money.

Young was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:31 a.m.

Witnesses gave deputies a description of Gillam and his vehicle. He was located moments later and taken into custody.

Authorities have not released the nature of the argument.

Gillam was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 8:10 a.m. Saturday and remains held without bond.
