56-year-old woman IDâd as pedestrian fatally struck on Tuscaloosaâs McFarland Boulevard
Authorities have released the name of a woman struck and killed on a Tuscaloosa road.
Tuscaloosa police on Tuesday identified the fatality victim as Janithy Ann Campbell. She was 56.
A driver called 911 at 4:05 a.m. Monday to report the accident, said Tuscaloosa police spokeswoman Stephanie Taylor.
He told officers he was driving east and unable to avoid striking the woman, who was walking in the middle lane. The driver had stopped to check on her.
Campbell was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police initially said they believed a Ford F150 struck the woman again and continued driving east. Taylor said investigators later determined that was not the case.
TPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit and the Cyber Intelligence Division is investigating.
