An investigation is underway after a 54-year-old man died following a weekend assault in eastern Jefferson County.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Gemar Demetriece Hubbard. He lived in Center Point.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Hubbard sustained blunt force injuries during an attack at 9:43 p.m. Saturday. The assault happened in the 1500 block of Charter East Circle.

Hubbard was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:16 p.m. Sunday.

Yates said Hubbard’s death is being investigated as a homicide.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. No additional details have been released.

Hubbard is the 65th homicide in all of Jefferson County so far in 2024.
