A suspect has been charged in fatal shooting of a man in Fairfield.

Michael Lee Cole, 51, is charged with murder in the slaying of 27-year-old Deandre Lamar Hayes, according to charging documents.

Cole was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, records show. He remains held without bond.

The sheriff’s office received a call at 2:33 p.m. Friday of shots fired but did not find anything in the area.

Then, at 4:40 p.m., they were notified of a person down outside of a residence in the 600 block of Jerry D. Coleman Street.

When deputies arrived, they found Hayes unresponsive. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 4:57 p.m.

A motive has not been released.

Cole lived on the street where the deadly shooting happened.
