50-year-old motorcyclist killed in collision with a mother walking with son identified
Authorities have released the name of a motorcyclist killed when he struck a pedestrian who was picking up her child from the school bus stop.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the fatality victim as El Destry Demetrese Thomas. He was 50 and lived in Hueytown.
The crash happened at 3:21 p.m. Tuesday in the 4700 block of Main Street in Brighton.
A woman was crossing Main Street with her son when she was struck by Thomas.
Thomas was pronounced dead on the scene at 4:24 p.m.
The woman, whose identity has not been released, was taken to UAB Hospital where she remains in critical condition with a head and multiple other injuries.
The woman’s son was not injured.
