50-year-old IDâd as woman found fatally shot on Birmingham sidewalk
Authorities have released the name of a woman found fatally shot on a Birmingham sidewalk late Friday.
Birmingham police on Saturday night identified the victim as Sherry Lynette Brody. She was 50.
A man is being held in the Birmingham City Jail pending the ongoing investigation.
West Precinct officers were dispatched at 11:43 p.m. Friday to the 600 block of 11th Court West on a report of a person shot. That location is off Arkadelphia Road.
When officers got on the scene, said Sgt. LaQuitta Wade, they found Brody unresponsive on the sidewalk in front of a house. Birmingham Fire and Rescue pronounced her dead.
Wade said it appears that an altercation took place between the woman and the man. “Moments later,’’ she said, “people in the area heard a shot being fired and called 911.”
Wade said the deadly shooting is believed to be domestic related.
Brody is the city’s 65th homicide this year. Of those, one was an officer involved shooting by an outside law enforcement agency and five others have been ruled justifiable and therefore are not deemed criminal.
In all of Jefferson County there have been 96 homicides including the 65 in Birmingham.
Anyone with additional information is asked to call homicide detectives at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
