Five players with Alabama football roots signed reserve/future contracts with NFL teams on Monday.

Fourteen teams announced reserve/future signings on Monday of players who were on their practice squads in the final week of the regular season.

A player signed to a reserve/future contract can be added to an NFL team’s roster when it expands from 53 to 90 players for the offseason on the first day of the NFL’s 2023 business year on March 15. The newly signed players become eligible to participate in offseason workouts, minicamps and OTAs as team members.

Only players who aren’t on NFL active rosters can sign reserve/future contracts.

The players from Alabama high schools and colleges who signed reserve/future contracts on Monday stayed with their 2022 teams:

· Guard Deonte Brown (Austin, Alabama) signed with the Carolina Panthers.

· Panthers running back Spencer Brown (Mortimer Jordan, UAB) signed with the Carolina Panthers.

· Saints running back Derrick Gore (Alabama) is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Cardinals offensive lineman Lachavious Simmons (Selma) is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

· Cardinals safety Josh Thomas (Montgomery Academy) is on the practice squad and not eligible to play.

Each of the players has appeared in the NFL regular season, with Spencer Brown and Thomas doing so in two games apiece during the 2022 campaign. Brown ran for 43 yards on nine carries and caught two passes for 10 yards with the Panthers.
