5 things to know from Monday’s All-Star Week events
The 28th AHSAA All-Star Week got underway on Monday in Montgomery with the North All-Stars winning both the boys and girls golf matches at Arrowhead Golf Club and the South stars beat the North 4-1 in what was scheduled to be the opening game of a doubleheader at the Montgomery Biscuits’ Riverwalk Stadium, but rain washed out Game 2.
The teams took the field for Game 2, but lightning delayed the scoreless game in the first inning and eventually led to the cancellation of the contest.
Here are 5 things to know about the opening day:
1. North girls MVP Polly McCrackin of Hayden, the low medalist in the Class 4A/5A state golf championships in May, competed in the duals match competition as an individual and beat the South team of Adleigh Marshall of Mobile Christian and Morgan Casey of New Brockton, 13.5-4.5. The North squad was the overall winner, beating the South 51-39, and leads the series 4-1. Lauryn Leonard of Pike Road and Evelyn Tankersley of Alabama Christian took MVP honors for the South team after they beat Lucia Perez (Westminster Christian) and Morgan Hopper (Hewitt-Trussville) 13-5.
2. The North boys beat their Southern counterparts 39-33 to improve to 5-0 all-time in the all-star golf event. Athens Bible’s A.J.
