5-star guard Boogie Fland sets commitment date, Alabama basketball in final 3
Alabama men’s basketball and coach Nate Oats may be in line for another five-star recruit. Boogie Fland, a combo guard from White Plains, New York, announced he’ll be announcing his commitment this Friday, Oct. 20, at 1 p.m. CT.
Fland, who is ranked by 247Sports Composite as the No. 20 player nationally in the class of 2024, announced three finalists on Monday: Alabama, Kentucky and Indiana. He’ll make his decision live from his high school, Archbishop Stepinac.
Fland is a scorer, averaging 15.0 points per game and a 33.3% 3-point rate for the PSA Cardinals of the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League this summer. Fland was also a gold medalist for the 2022 USA Basketball U17 National Team. There doesn’t seem to be a consensus leader for Fland, listed at 6-foot-3, 170 pounds.
Alabama earned the final visit on Sept. 22. He also made a trip last month to Lexington. Wildcats’ head coach John Calipari has been active in the pursuit, making multiple visits as Fland nears his decision. Rivals is predicting Fland will choose the Hoosiers.
From On3′s Scouting Summary: “He has a good handle and is able to shoot the ball from each level. He has deep range off the bounce and will pull up if you give him an inch. He sees the floor well, gets his teammates in evolved, and takes care of the ball, valuing possessions. There is a floater game in there as well, with a one and two dribble pull-up. He will need to continue getting stronger, and he is a solid athlete and has average length.”
On Sept. 26, the Crimson Tide landed Aiden Sherrell. The 6-foot-10 center is the fifth five-star Oats has gotten a commitment from since his hire. The 2024 class is ranked 46th nationally.
