5-star CB puts Tide in top 5 with announcement mid Sugar Bowl

5-star CB puts Tide in top 5 with announcement mid Sugar Bowl

Alabama is already in a strong position with the 2024 class.

While Nick Saban and co. were compiling a star-studded group this cycle, the foundation among current juniors grew as well. The Tide received more good news while showing out in the Sugar Bowl versus Kansas State.

Ellis Robinson IV, widely considered one of the best cornerback recruits in his class by multiple recruiting sites, announced his top five on Saturday: Colorado, Georgia, LSU, Miami and the Tide.

Robinson, listed at 6-foot, 175-pounds is the No. 8 player in the 247Sports Composite. He’s been a standout first at Iona (N.Y.) Prep and this fall at IMG (Fla.) Academy. The current Crystal Ball for Robinson puts him with Kirby Smart and Georgia, who will compete for a second national title in as many years.

How Alabama’s best defensive 2024 commit handeled a different position this fall

“I do have a commitment plan,” Robinson told Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports. “Me and my parents are still putting it together.”

The Tide proved a few weeks ago that it’s still the pinnacle of recruiting with seven five-stars, including a former teammate of Robinson’s, Desmond Ricks. Still, the remaining contenders are all interesting options. Georgia is a blue chip. Miami stormed into a top-5 finish overall. LSU placed seventh on team rankings and beat Alabama. Colorado also appears to be at least an intriguing situation with new head coach Deion Sanders aiming high.

Alabama signed five defensive backs this cycle and has another elite corner prospect in Clay-Chalkville’s Jaylen Mbakwe. It has five commits in 2024.
