5 people killed, including a child, in 2 separate Birmingham weekend wrecks

Authorities have released the names of five people killed in two separate horrific traffic crashes in Birmingham over the weekend.

A young boy was among the victims.

On Sunday, three people from one vehicle were killed in a two-vehicle crash on Arkadelphia Road at Eighth Terrace West.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as Caiden Evans, 6, of Birmingham, Earl Lee Evans III, 36, of Pleasant Grove, and Karen Renee King, 36, of Birmingham.

The wreck happened at 4:53 p.m.

Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said King was driving a Ford Crown Victoria that collided with a Chevrolet Traverse. It appeared to be a head-on collision, but authorities have not yet confirmed that information.

Evans, a passenger, was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:10 p.m.

King was taken to UAB Hospital where she died at 6:08 p.m.

Caiden was taken to Children’s of Alabama where he was pronounced dead at 5:33 p.m.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service also transported two other people to the hospital. Their conditions have not been released.

The investigation is ongoing Birmingham police.

On Friday, two men were killed in a single-vehicle crash on Birmingham’s Bessemer Road.

Coroner’s officials identified those victims as Kendrick Lawayne Robinson, 33, of Ohio, and Michael Anthony Walker, 38, of Birmingham.

Birmingham police and firefighters were dispatched just before 8 p.m. to the single-vehicle wreck in the 900 block of Bessemer Road. 911 callers reported one man was in the street and the other was trapped in the vehicle.

First responders arrived to find an SUV had crashed into a tree.

Authorities said Walker was driving the Chevrolet Trailblazer. He had to be extricated from the wreckage and was pronounced dead on the scene at 8:50 p.m.

Robinson, the passenger, was taken to UAB Hospital where he died at 8:37 p.m.

That crash is also under investigation by Birmingham police.
