5 Montgomery colleges sign agreement to fight campus crime

Universities and law enforcement agencies in Montgomery signed a memorandum of understanding today that officials said would improve coordination of information, training, and investigations into acts of violence on campus.

Alabama State University, Auburn University at Montgomery, Faulkner University, Huntingdon College, and Troy University at Montgomery signed the MOU today at ASU, along with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery Police Department, and Crimestoppers, according to a news release from ASU.

Cheryl Lang, director of ASU’s Violence Against Women & Men Program, said it is important for local colleges and law enforcement agencies to share resources and work together to best protect and educate students, faculty and staff and bring any law breakers to quick justice.

“By sharing training, resources and investigative tools, we will do a better job in the arena of fighting, solving, preventing crimes and bringing criminals to be adjudicated and sentenced for their crimes,” Lang said. “By working together, we help each other.”
