Here are five games to watch in the Huntsville area this week with the complete schedule following.

CLASS 3A: NO. 4 MARS HILL (10-1) AT NO. 2 MADISON ACADEMY (11-0)

Time/location: 7 p.m. Friday, Bill Washington Stadium, Huntsville

Last week: Mars Hill beat Oakman 63-7. Madison Academy defeated Hokes Bluff 57-20.

The skinny: These private school powers are meeting for the first time. Over the past 12 years, they have combined for five state titles and three state runner-up finishes. Both teams were eliminated in the second round last season; had they won, they would have met in the quarterfinals. … Madison Academy has the top scoring offense in Class 3A (53.4 points per game). Mars Hill is No. 2 at 49.3. The Mustangs also have the No. 2 scoring defense (9.7). … Madison Academy’s backfield duo features Ken Cherry (2,022 yards, 28 TDs) and Joshua Williams (1,099 yards, 16 TDs). Quarterback Jake Poldiak has thrown 23 touchdowns against only two interceptions. Jackson Reece has 12 TD catches. … Mars Hill’s J.O. Owens ran for 152 yards and three touchdowns against Oakman. The Panthers defense yielded only 76 yards. … Madison Academy is 10-6 all-time in the second round, according to AHSFHS.org; Mars Hill is 4-1.

CLASS 6A: NO. 6 HARTSELLE (9-2) AT GADSDEN CITY (8-3)

Time/location: 7 p.m. Friday, Titan Stadium

Last week: Hartselle defeated Center Point 28-18. Gadsden City beat Gardendale 44-16.

The skinny: This is a rematch of a Sept. 22 game that Hartselle won 31-28 at home. It was in that game that the Tigers lost starting quarterback Landon Blackwood to injury. Noah Lee stepped in and has gone 6-1. … Hartselle running back Ri Fletcher eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards last week. He has 14 touchdowns on the ground this season. Fletcher went for 117 yards and a TD in the first matchup with Gadsden City. … Titans running backs Kerrell Yow and T.J. Worthy combined for 225 yards rushing and three touchdowns against Gardendale. In the first meeting with Hartselle, Worthy scored on two long catches and a pair of short runs. … Hartselle and Gadsden City also met in the 2022 regular season, with the Tigers prevailing 16-9. … Hartselle is 12-9 all-time in the second round; Gadsden City is 4-3.

CLASS 4A: NO. 5 WEST MORGAN (11-0) AT NO. 10 CORNER (10-1)

Last week: West Morgan shut out Etowah 56-0. Corner doubled up host Randolph 42-21.

The skinny: West Morgan has tied the program record for wins (joining 11-win teams from 2002 and 1972) and set a program record for points scored with 601. The Rebels average 54.6 points, best among all AHSAA classifications, and are winning by an average margin of 40.2 points, fifth-highest among all classifications. … West Morgan’s Jalen Fletcher has run for 1,368 yards and 26 touchdowns and caught 11 TD passes. Braxton Peters has 28 touchdown passes and just one pick; 13 of his scoring passes went to Ti’Airrius Mosley. … Corner ran for 372 yards against Randolph last week; Spencer Unruh had 179 of those yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Brendan Conner added 114 yards and two TDs; Conner also threw a touchdown pass. … West Morgan is 2-11 all-time in the second round, with the last win coming in 1994. Corner has never advanced to the quarterfinals; the Yellow Jackets lost their only other second-round game in 2006. … This is the first meeting between West Morgan and Corner.

CLASS 2A: NO. 5 PISGAH (10-1) AT TANNER (8-3)

Last week: Pisgah beat Pleasant Valley 44-20. Tanner outlasted Lamar County 64-55.

The skinny: Pisgah has won at least one playoff game in consecutive years for the first time since 2002-03. Tanner is seeking to do the same for the first time since 2015-16. … Pisgah boasts the No. 2 scoring offense in Class 2A at 48.7 points per game. Tanner has allowed 30 or more points in three of its last four games. … Pisgah’s starters played just the opening series of the second half against Pleasant Valley after building a 37-0 halftime lead. Quarterback Mason Holcomb accounted for four touchdowns — two passing and two rushing. … Tanner quarterback Karl Parham threw three TD passes and ran for another score against Lamar County. For the season, he has 21 TD passes and six rushing TDs. All three of Parham’s scoring passes against Lamar County went to Skylar Townsend, who has 17 TD grabs this season. … Pisgah is 2-1 against Tanner. The teams split meetings over 2020-21 and the Eagles won a first-round playoff game in 2002. … Tanner is 10-9 all-time in the second round; Pisgah is 4-9.

Last week: Guntersville beat Springville 31-7. John Carroll won 22-14 at ninth-ranked Fairview.

The skinny: Guntersville is in the playoffs for the 11th consecutive season. John Carroll made its return to the postseason last week after missing out for 13 straight seasons; the Cavaliers won their first playoff game since 2004. … Guntersville is allowing only 11 points per game, fifth-lowest in Class 5A. … Wildcats running backs Enelson Delva and Julyon Jordan combined for 297 rushing yards and three touchdowns against Springville. … John Carroll quarterback Carson McFadden scored three touchdowns against Fairview — a pair of scoring tosses to Zach Archer and a TD run. … Guntersville is 4-9 all-time in the second round; John Carroll is 1-3, with the lone victory coming in 1994. … This is the first meeting between the Wildcats and Cavaliers.
