Here are five games to watch in the Huntsville area this week, with the complete schedule following.
DECATUR (6-1) AT HARTSELLE (8-0)
Time/location: 7 p.m. Friday at Hartselle’s J.P. Cain Stadium
Last week: Hartselle beat Athens 45-21 on the road. Decatur lost 42-28 at home to Muscle Shoals.
The skinny: Decatur holds a 60-28-1 advantage over the Tigers, but the Red Raiders have lost four straight, including 42-21 on the road last season. … Headed into the final Class 6A, Region 7 game of the year, Hartselle holds the top spot in the standings at 4-0 and the Tigers are ranked sixth in the Alabama Sports Writers Association poll. Muscle Shoals holds the head-to-head tiebreaker over No. 8 Decatur for second place, both are 3-1. … Bryan Moore, who is 2-0 vs. Decatur, will bring a balanced offensive attack into the rivalry game. Hartselle throws for 215 yards a game and runs for 186. … QB Jack Smith has passed for 1,550 yards with 12 TDs and 4 interceptions this season, completing 68 percent of his throws. He is the second-leading rusher with 302 yards and 7 scores. … Ri Fletcher leads the Tigers with 713 yards and 10 TDs on the ground. … Wideout Eli Tidwell is Hartselle’s top receiver with 653 yards and 8 touchdowns on 32 catches while Izayah Fletcher – Ri’s brother – has 50 catches for 544 yards and 3 TDs. … Veteran Decatur coach Jere Adcock is 184-118 in his 27th year leading the Red Raiders. The skinny: Priceville is ranked fourth in Class 4A and is tied with Randolph atop the Region 8 standings at 5-0. The Bulldogs close out their season at Randolph next week. … Westminster Christian is in third place in the region at 4-1 and wraps up region play at home against New Hope next week. … Westminster leads the series 3-1, including a 70-6 rout in the regular season finale last year. … Priceville’s All-State RB Mason Cartee has 1,075 rushing yards thus far after running for 2,363 last year. He has 13 TDs on the ground and 1 receiving on his 3 catches for 113 yards. Last week he picked up 203 yards on 22 carries with 3 TDs. … Xander Gaines has 3 TDs on 6 catches for 178 yards. … LB Larson Speegle leads the Bulldogs with 81 total tackles. … Westminster junior QB Brandon Musch continues to pile up the yards through the air.
