5 Huntsville area high school football games to watch in Week 11
Here are five games to watch in the Huntsville area this week with the complete schedule following.
WESTMINSTER CHRISTIAN (6-3) AT MADISON ACADEMY (7-2)
Time/location: 7 p.m., Bill Washington Stadium, Huntsville
Last week: Class 4A Westminster Christian defeated New Hope 46-14. Class 3A Madison Academy beat Susan Moore 56-7
The skinny: The scoreboard will likely get a workout in this matchup that pits two of the top-10 scoring offenses in the state among all classifications: No. 3 Westminster (50.1 points per game) and No. 6 Madison Academy (47.2). … On the flip side, Westminster has the No. 50 (out of 61) scoring defense in 4A, allowing an average of 37.1 points. Madison Academy allows 14.3. … Wildcats quarterback Brandon Musch accounted for 351 total yards and six touchdowns against New Hope. For the season, he has passed for 2,218 yards and 30 touchdowns and rushed for 1,294 yards and 26 TDs. The 56 touchdowns accounted for is tied for 13th-most in a season in AHSAA history. Former Decatur Heritage quarterback Brayden Kyle set the record of 68 last season. Musch is also ninth in AHSAA history for career total offense (9,829 yards) and 11th for career TDs accounted for (129). … Madison Academy has won seven straight games, outscoring opponents 357-41 during the stretch. … Mustangs quarterback Carson Creehan threw for 203 yards and three touchdowns against Susan Moore. Ken Cherry ran for 156 yards and two TDs, surpassing 1,000 yards on the season in the process. … Madison Academy is 6-0 against Westminster, outscoring the Wildcats 282-40. Creehan had a TD pass in last year’s 52-14 victory. Musch had more incompletions (19) than completions (10) and was held to 158 passing yards and two TD runs.
ALBERTVILLE (1-8) AT GUNTERSVILLE (7-2)
Time/location: 7 p.m., Friday, Chorba-Lee Stadium
Last week: Class 5A Guntersville blanked Sardis 41-0. Class 7A Albertville lost 42-14 to Bob Jones.
The skinny: This is the 108th meeting between Guntersville and Albertville, the most games played in a rivalry in state history, according to AHSFHS.org. The teams first met in 1914, making this the state’s second-oldest rivalry behind Sylacauga-Talladega (1911). … Guntersville has won last three meetings and leads the series 54-47-6. The Wildcats won 49-28 last season in a game that featured a combined 1,024 yards of offense. … Guntersville starting quarterback Antonio Spurgeon suffered a foot injury against Scottsboro on Sept. 29 is out for the season, according to the Sand Mountain Reporter. Julyon Johnson had three touchdown runs against Sardis. … The Wildcats defense has three shutouts on the season. … Albertville’s Reece Knight threw a pair of touchdown passes against Bob Jones.
FAIRVIEW (7-2) AT RANDOLPH (7-2)

Last week: Class 4A, No. 10-ranked Randolph lost 35-21 to fourth-ranked Priceville. Class 5A Fairview lost 41-14 to Russellville.
The skinny: Both teams are coming off losses in de facto region championship games. … Randolph lost to Priceville on the heels of earning the first ranking in program history. The Raiders led 7-0 at halftime before the Bulldogs took control. Andrew Hunter threw for 347 yards and three touchdowns but was picked off twice. … Fairview quarterback Barrett York had a TD pass and run as the Aggies took a 14-7 first-half lead against Russellville before fading. … Randolph holds a 3-1 series lead. The teams last met in 2019.
BOB JONES (5-4) AT HARTSELLE (9-0)
Time/location: 7 p.m., Friday, J.P. Cain Stadium
Last week: Class 7A Bob Jones beat Albertville 42-14. Class 6A, No. 6-ranked Hartselle had an open week.
The skinny: Hartselle is looking to finish the regular 10-0 for the second consecutive year and the seventh time in program history. The Tigers have won 22 straight regular season games. … Hartselle quarterback Jack Smith has passed for 1,750 yards and 14 touchdowns and scored 10 rushing TDs this season. … Bob Jones’ Tyren Washington had three touchdown runs against Albertville, giving him seven on the season. Quarterback Ray Hardy has rushed for more than 1,000 yards this season. … Hartselle and Bob Jones are meeting for the first time since 1999. The Tigers have a 4-1 series lead.
SCOTTSBORO (6-3) AT DECATUR (7-2)

Last week: Class 5A Scottsboro defeated Crossville 54-7. Class 6A Decatur beat Buckhorn 52-14.
The skinny: Both teams have surpassed their combined win totals from the past two seasons – Decatur (six) and Scottsboro (five). …. Decatur got back in the win column last week after losing two straight games to ranked teams — Hartselle and Muscle Shoals. Ellis Dickman threw four touchdown passes against Buckhorn. … Scottsboro’s Keelan Alvarez ran for 147 yards and three touchdowns against Crossville. … The Wildcats are going to the playoffs for the first time since 2019. … Decatur and Scottsboro are meeting for the first time since 1991 — they played each other all but one year between 1969-91, according to AHSFHS.org. The Red Raiders have an 18-8 series lead.
