5 Huntsville area games to watch for the week of Jan. 16-20

While winter weather is playing havoc with this week’s schedule, there are several games on tap that should make it to tipoff.

Here are five top high school basketball games this week:

PINSON VALLEY (14-8) AT HUNTSVILLE (23-1) – BOYS

Day/Time: Wednesday, 7:30 p.m.

The skinny: Top-ranked Class 7A Huntsville has won 29 straight at home and the Panthers are riding a 20-game overall win streak on the season. Samford University signee Caleb Harrison is the statistical standout thus far, but Huntsville’s entire roster can be counted on to make big contributions. In the 85-54 win over Sparkman on Friday, the Panthers got 37 points off the bench. The 6-foot-10 Harrison is scoring 20.4 points a game and grabbing 10.2 rebounds per outing with 4.2 assists. He’s shooting 61 percent from the floor – 40 percent on 3-pointers. Huntsville made 13-of-25 3-point attempts in the win. Class 6A No. 7 Pinson Valley’s Clyde Walters, a 6-6 sophomore, leads the Indians in four statistical categories – scoring 17.1 points per game, with 7.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.4 blocked shots per outing. Austin Coner, a 5-11 junior, scores 12.1 per game, grabs 4.3 rebounds and dishes out 3.7 assists.
