5 Coastal Alabama football games to watch in Week 7
The battle for four playoff spots in Class 5A, Region 1 continues this week with several crucial games.
Suddenly surging Citronelle travels to B.C. Rain in a battle of 1-2 teams that can’t afford many more losses to retain their hopes of making the postseason.

Meanwhile, No. 2-ranked Gulf Shores tries to keep its undefeated season alive when it hosts Williamson. The Lions are expected to be without head coach Antonio Coleman for a second straight week. Coleman is out with a knee injury.
Here are 5 games to watch this week in Coastal Alabama:
CITRONELLE (3-2) AT B.C. RAIN (3-2)
Time/location: 7 p.m. Friday, Ben Glover Stadium, Mobile
Last week: Citronelle was idle; B.C. Rain defeated Davidson 49-35
Region records: Both teams are 1-2 in Class 5A, Region 1
The skinny: B.C. Rain leads the overall series 12-10 and won last year’s game 41-6. … Citronelle won consecutive games against Alma Bryant (19-13, OT) and Faith Academy (27-10) before an off date last week. Both of the Wildcats’ losses came against teams that are still undefeated – Gulf Shores (31-0) and Vigor (34-28, OT). QB Justin Adams is completing 55 percent of his passes for 420 yards and a pair of TDs. He’s also rushed for 321 yards and 6 TDs. Defensively, first-year coach Jason Rowell’s team is led by Brayden Rivers with 59 total tackles, 9 TFL, 2 sacks and a pair of interceptions. David Sullivan has 47 tackles, while Elijah Owens has 32 and a pair of interceptions. The Wildcats allowed 91 points through their first three games but have allowed just 23 total in the last two. … The Red Raiders also have won two straight games, beating Williamson 13-2 and Davidson 49-35. They’ve scored 135 points, while giving up 106. … Coach L.T. Yelding is 14-31 in his fifth year at the school. He’s trying to lead the team to the playoffs for the second time in the last three seasons.
FAIRHOPE (1-4) AT FOLEY (2-3)
Time/location: 7 p.m. Thursday, Ivan Jones Stadium, Foley
Last week: Fairhope was idle; Foley lost to Saraland 70-20
Region records: Both teams are 0-2 in Class 7A, Region 1.
The skinny: Foley leads the overall series 53-43-4. The Lions won 39-38 a year ago. … Fairhope has lost four straight games since beating Spanish Fort 17-14 to open the season. It’s the first four-game losing streak in a single season for the Pirates since opening the 2016 season 0-5. Fairhope has been outscored 137-60 and hasn’t reached the 20-point mark yet. The Pirates have scored exactly 10 points in each of their last three games against Pensacola Catholic, MGM and Davidson. Preston Godfrey has thrown for 324 yards and rushed for 241 and three TDs. Sanders Daniell has 19 receptions for 151 yards and a TD. Senior Dallas Boothe leads the team in tackles with 44. … Foley has lost three straight games since opening the season 2-0. The Lions have been outscored 149-71 in those losses. Senior Kolton Nero has rushed for 1,061 yards and 12 TDs on 113 carries – an average of 212.2 yards per game. Auburn WR commit Perry Thompson has 28 receptions for 351 yards and three touchdowns. He’s also thrown a TD pass and has a rushing score. QB Nelson Thompson is completing 62 percent of his passes for 703 yards and five TDs. He’s been intercepted four times. … Foley will induct a new class into its Hall of Fame before the game.
ST. PAUL’S (4-1) AT SPANISH FORT (4-2)

Last week: St. Paul’s defeated Faith Academy 40-7; Spanish Fort defeated Daphne 35-27.
Region records: St. Paul’s is 2-1 in Class 6A, Region 1. Spanish Fort is 3-1.
The skinny: St. Paul’s leads the overall series 8-7. Spanish Fort won 41-38 last year in Mobile. … Both teams have lost to Class 6A No. 1 Saraland this season. The Saints lost 47-3 on Sept. 8. Spanish Fort lost 49-7 the next week. … St. Paul’s has responded with two straight convincing wins, beating Murphy 24-8 and Faith Academy 40-7. Last week, Anthony Frasier rushed for 205 yards as the Saints used a punishing ground game to beat Faith. Frasier carried the ball 20 times and scored on a 55-yard run. Will Abrams, Anthony “Tank” Jones and Tate Johnston all had scores on the ground. … Spanish Fort has also won two straight since losing to Saraland. The Toros rallied from a 27-7 deficit last week behind three Aaden Shamburger TD passes. Sawyer Wilson leads the team in rushing with 410 yards and three touchdowns on 82 carries. Drew Williamson has run for 284 yards and four TDs on 41 carries. Nemo Hixon and Justin Bonner each have a pair of receiving TDs. Louisville EDGE commit Cole McConathy has 57 tackles, 19 TFL, 14 hurries and 13.5 sacks. … This is the 11th edition of the California Dreaming Bowl.
T.R. MILLER (3-2) AT BAYSIDE ACADEMY (4-1)

The skinny: T.R. Miller leads the overall series 11-4 and won 28-3 a year ago. … Brent Hubbert is 41-15 in his fifth year with the Tigers and 224-56 in 23 years as a head coach overall. … QB Nathan Commander is 65-of-107 for 675 yards and five touchdowns. RB Takyi Askew has rushed for 370 yards and five TDs. Kavaris Bell (15 receptions, 160 yards, 2 TDs) is the leading receiver. The defense is led by Bell with 60 tackles, Eli Hubbert with 52 and Chris Williams with 35 tackles and 3 INT, two of which went for touchdowns. … Bayside was averaging 34.7 points a game before being shut out by No. 4 Jackson on Sept. 22. Sophomore QB Sammy Dunn is completing 72 percent of his passes for 877 yards and 11 touchdowns. He’s been intercepted six times. Damien Tate has rushed for 381 yards and 2 TDs, while Teague Broadhead has 237 yards and 3 scores. The leading receiver is Tait Moore with 14 receptions for 231 yards and 4 TDs. Broadhead (57 tackles) and Monroe Partin (48) lead the defense. Former Auburn QB Barrett Trotter is in his first year as head coach of the Admirals.
WILLIAMSON (3-3) AT GULF SHORES (6-0)

Last week: Williamson defeated Blount 14-12; Gulf Shores defeated Murphy 37-14
Region records: Williamson is 2-2 in Class 5A, Region 1; Gulf Shores is 4-0.
The skinny: Gulf Shores won last year’s game 51-12. Williamson leads the overall series 4-3. The Lions last win over the Dolphins was a 28-20 victory in 2015. … Williamson head coach Antonio Coleman is expected to miss his second straight game with a knee injury. John Mitchell is the Lions’ interim coach. Since a 41-2 loss to Class 7A No. 4 Mary G. Montgomery to open the season, the Williamson defense has allowed just 49 points in four games – an average of 12.25 points per game. However, the Lions’ offense has scored just 79 points in five games total – an average of just 15.8 points. Freshman Ellis McGaskin leads the team in tackles with 69 followed by juniors Taijh Overton (63) and Yusef Clark (58). McGaskin scored one of Williamson’s TDs last week on a 12-yard run. Jermaine McCree scored the other on an 80-yard kickoff return. … Gulf Shores is off to the best start in school history. The Dolphins have outscored their opponents 201-50 with three shutouts. The Dolphin offense is led by junior RB Kolin Wilson (684 yards, 10 TDs) and senior ATH and N.C. State commit Ronnie Royal (355 yards, 4 TDs). QBs Jud Harris and Alex Rippy have combined for 6 TD passes. The defense is led by seniors Isaiah Hammac (45 tackles) and Otto Brewer (8 TFL) and sophomore Landon Everett (28 tackles).
