The Birmingham area is always rife with championship-contending high school basketball teams.

Hoover boys and girls are Class 7A defending state champions along with Class 5A Pleasant Grove girls while Class 6A Mountain Brook and Class 3A Midfield played for boys titles last season.

In addition to the Hoover girls — nine state titles for the Bucs — Spain Park, Homewood and Wenonah have all won titles in the past 10 seasons. The Mountain Brook and Wenonah boys have each won six championships while Midfield has four titles.
