49-year-old Birmingham man fatally struck by freight train

A man killed when he was hit by a freight train in west Jefferson County has now been identified.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday identified the victim as Cedric Lamar Dean. He was 49 and lived in Birmingham.

The crash happened at 10:45 p.m. Sunday in the 5500 block of Avenue A in the Bessemer area.

Dean was pronounced dead on the scene at 10:52 p.m. Additional details weren’t released.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
