45-year-old man missing from Opelika found slain in Alex City; suspect jailed

The body of a 45-year-old man missing from Opelika has been found in Alexander City, and a suspect has been charged in his death.

Ricky Montel Johnson was last seen Thursday, Oct. 12, leaving his Opelika home. He was driving a 2010 gray Nissan Altima.

Investigators said Johnson could be experiencing cognitive issues that could affect his safety.

On Sunday, Oct. 15, Alexander City police officers were notified that a body had been dumped on Henry Street, said Deputy Chief James Easterwood.

Officers responded to the area and found the remains – later identified as Johnson – near an abandoned house. His identity was confirmed on Tuesday.

Richardeon Felonte Davis, 31, is charged with murder in Johnson’s slaying. Authorities have not said how Johnson was killed but said the two were acquaintances.

Davis is being held in the Tallapoosa County Jail.

Eastwood said the investigation is ongoing and more charges are possible.
