43-year-old man killed in Bessemer shooting
An overnight shooting in Bessemer left one man dead.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Demetrius La Keen Fletcher. He was 43 and lived in Bessemer.
The shooting happened at 11:58 p.m. in the 1900 block of 10th Avenue North.
Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said Fletcher was pronounced dead on the scene at 12:24 a.m.
Bessemer police Det. Justin Burmeister said witnesses told investigators there was some type of arguemnt before the suspect started shooting.
No one is in custody.
Fletcher is Bessemer’s fifth homicide this year. In all of Jefferson County there have been 115 homicides, including the five in Bessemer.
