A victim was taken to a local hospital with severe burns after a fire broke out early Thursday morning in Mobile, police said.

Mobile officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Dauphin Street around 2:32 a.m. Thursday in response to a medical emergency, said Cpl. Katrina Frazier.

Mobile Fire and Rescue Service personnel told the officers who arrived on the scene that a fire broke out across the street.

The officers then learned the victim, only identified as being 42 years old, was sleeping in the area where the fire erupted.
