$4,000 reward offered for information in August killing of 16-year-old boy in Prattville
A reward is being offered for information in the August shooting death of a 16-year-old boy in Prattville.
Central Alabama Crime Stoppers on Tuesday announced $4,000 in reward money in the slaying of Kylen Smith. The agency is offering $3,000, and Prattville Mayor Bill Gillespie Jr. and family are offering $1,000.
The shooting happened about 2 p.m. Aug. 6 in the 600 block of Covered Bridge Parkway.
Kylen was found unresponsive and pronounced dead on the scene.
Investigators said a witness saw a male was observed leaving the scene wearing all black, including a black hoodie. Evidence collected has led investigators to believe that the suspect was on foot at the time shooting and not in a vehicle.
The deadly shooting is not believed to be random. Detectives think Kylen may have known or associated with the shooter prior to the homicide.
“The victim’s family is heartbroken as they approach the first holiday season without their loved one,’’ according to Crime Stoppers. “They are seeking answers and ask for anyone with information to please come forward.”
