4 R&B legends unite for 2025 tour, ready to perform classic hits
Four iconic R&B singers are touring together this year, promising audiences nostalgia-packed concerts that will showcase classic hits.
Chaka Khan, Gladys Knight, Patti LaBelle and Stephanie Mills have announced 20 dates for 2025, including a performance in Alabama. Their tour — called “The Queens! 4 Legends. 1 Stage” — is set to stop in Birmingham on May 17 at the Legacy Arena at the BJCC, 1898 Ninth Ave. North.
Tickets for the 8 p.m. concert go on sale Friday, March 21, via Ticketmaster, after a round of pre-sales on Thursday. (The BJCC has released a pre-sale code: BJCC25.)
Prices range from $59.50 to $129.50, plus service charges, according to the Ticketmaster site. VIP packages range from $379 to $2,629.50.
The “Queens” tour, organized by the Black Promoters Collective, kicks off May 9 in Las Vegas. The first leg of the tour includes 11 concerts, and runs through June 1 in Indianapolis. Nine more shows are planned for the fall, starting on Sept. 19 in Greensboro, N.C., and ending on Oct. 5 in Cleveland, Ohio.
Birmingham is the only Alabama show to date, but concerts also are planned in Southern cities such as Columbia, S.C. (May 16, Colonial Life Arena); Nashville (May 18, Bridgestone Arena); Atlanta (Sept. 20, State Farm Arena); and Memphis (Sept. 21, FedEx Forum). See the full list of tour dates here.
Gary Guidry, CEO of Black Promoters Collective, called the “Queens” tour a celebration of the stars’ careers, honoring their “artistry, resilience, and legacy.”
Audiences can expect to hear hits such as “Ain’t Nobody” and ”I’m Every Woman” from Khan, a press release says, as well as “Lady Marmalade” and “If Only You Knew” from LaBelle, “Midnight Train to Georgia” and “Neither One of Us” from Knight and “Never Knew Love Like This Before” and “Home” from Mills.
All four women are household names in the entertainment world, with a long list of albums and awards to their collective credit. All of them have performed in Birmingham before, but never on a group tour like this one.
Khan, 71, is a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. She has 10 Grammy wins and 22 nominations to date, both as a solo artist and lead singer of the funk band Rufus. “Funk queen, rock goddess, jazz singer, disco diva — Chaka Khan embodies and transcends these,” the Rock Hall website says.
Knight, 80, has earned seven Grammy Awards and racked up 20 nominations. She’s in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, as well, as the soulful lead singer of Motown’s famed Gladys Knight & the Pips. “From the start she sang with the wisdom of a woman who has seen it all,” the Rock Hall website says.
LaBelle, 80, has two Grammy wins and 13 nominations. “A flamboyant belter whose fearlessness shone through in her ability to change keys and leap octaves, Patti LaBelle’s arresting voice gave pop music a jolt in both her solo work and as a member of the vocal group LaBelle,” Rolling Stone said, ranking her at No. 74 in its list of “The 200 Greatest Singers of All Time.”
Mills, 67, has 1 Grammy win and three nominations. She also won an American Music Award in 1982 for Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist. Mills came to fame during the ‘70s, playing Dorothy in “The Wiz,” a Tony-winning musical on Broadway. Mills moved on to a successful solo career, and has released more than a dozen studio albums. She returned to Broadway in 2024, portraying Hermes in the hit musical “Hadestown.”
It’s unclear if the stars will be on stage together for group numbers during the “Queens” shows, or perform separately each evening. However, a statement from Knight indicated that duets or group numbers are not out of the question.
“I’m thrilled to be touring with the best sisters a woman could be blessed with,” Knight said in a press release. “We will come together in support of one another and in harmony at a time when love is most needed.”
