$4 million verdict issued against ex-Alabama educator who secretly filmed daughterâs friend undressing
A Blount County jury has returned a multi-million-dollar civil verdict against a former educator who was previously convicted of videoing a teen girl while she was there visiting his daughter.
Tim Odus Clevenger, the former assistant principal at Locust Fork High School, was convicted in 2018 of production of child pornography and possession of obscene matter after filming a 14-year-old girl undressing to take a shower.
He later pleaded guilty to charges regarding a second child.
Both girls were students at Locust Fork High School where Clevenger worked at the time the videos were made.
Clevenger transferred the videos from his cell phone to the laptop issued to him by the school. The images were later discovered on Clevenger’s laptop by Blount County Board of Education IT specialists.
Attorney Scott Gilliland represented the victim in the civil case.
Gilliland on Tuesday announced the $4.060 million civil verdict against Clevenger for invasion of privacy and negligence.
“There is no amount of money that can fully compensate a child who has been exploited by a predator,’’ Gilliland said. “But we hope this verdict will send a message to those who prey upon children. You will be punished.”
Clevenger, now 57, was sentenced to 18 years on the child pornography production charge, and seven years on the child pornography possession charge. The sentences are concurrent.
Clevenger had been an assistant principal at Locust Fork since 2004. He was previously principal at Susan Moore High School, but his contract wasn’t renewed. In all, he’d been with the school system for 18 years.
He is currently incarcerated at Ventress Correctional Center.
