4 members of Walker County family indicted on multiple physical, sexual abuse charges of children

Four members of a Walker County family have been indicted on multiple charges alleging physical abuse – and some sexual abuse – of children.

The Walker County Sheriff’s Office on Monday announced the arrests, which came following grand jury indictments.

Those charged are Patsy Cooper Wyres, 63, James Timothy Wyres, 62, Anthony James Wyres, 37 and Amanda Lynn Wires, 34.

Patsy and James Wyres are married. Anthony Wyres is their son, and Amanda Wyres is Anthony Wyres’ wife.

The grand jury indicted Patsy Wyres on two counts of attempted murder, seven counts of aggravated child abuse, three counts of domestic violence-strangulation and one count of tampering with a witnesse.

Her husband has been indicted on three counts of first-degree sexual abuse and two counts of aggravated child abuse.

The grand jury indicted Amanda Wyres on two counts of attempted murder, three counts of aggravate child abuse and three counts of domestic violence-strangulation.

Anthony Wyres is indicted on three counts of aggravated child abuse, one count of domestic violence-strangulation and two counts of tampering with a witness.

All four were first arrested last year on charges of aggravated child abuse. A criminal complaint in that case listed the suspects as “parent, stepparent, legal guardian, custodian or a person who had the permanent or temporary care or responsibility for the supervision” of the victim.

Walker County sheriff’s officials said they could not provide additional context on the circumstances surrounding the allegations.

All four are scheduled to appear in court today.
