4 first half TDs by John Paul Head lead Vestavia Hills over Oak Mountain
Vestavia Hills used four John Paul Head first-half touchdowns to post a big lead Friday night and cruised to keep the Eagles winless in Class 7A, Region 3 play.
In the first half, Head scored on runs of 9, 1 and 4 yards. He also completed a 24-yard pass to Tucker Smith, which started the scoring barrage in the first half that gave Vestavia Hills at 28-7 halftime advantage.
Head added a 29-yard run midway through the third quarter to round out his effort giving Vestavia Hills (4-4, 3-3) a 35-7 lead. Head had 142 yards on 13 carries with the four scores and was 14-for-21 passing for 161 yards. He had a hand in all but 105 yards of the Rebels’ total offense.
William O’Dell led Oak Mountain (3-7, 0-6) with three passing touchdowns. He completed two to Sawyer Smith for 17 and 1 yards and another to Devan Moss for 30 yards with 8:26 left. O’Dell was 17-for-38 passing for 192 yards.
Samuel Hanson led Vestavia Hills’ defense with 6.5 tackles and Jordan Ross added 3.5 tackles for loss.
Next week is the region finale for each team. Vestavia Hills hosts Tuscaloosa County and Oak Mountain visits Spain Park.
