4 Birmingham students treated after reportedly ingesting edibles

Four students at a Birmingham middle school were treated by paramedics Tuesday after they reportedly ingested edibles.

One of the L.M. Smith Middle School students “apparently said he brought the edibles to school and shared them,” Birmingham City School spokeswoman Sherrel Stewart told AL.com.

Birmingham Fire Rescue Service Officials could not immediately be reached to confirm whether the students had in fact ingested edibles. A Birmingham Police Department spokesman deferred to Stewart for comment.

None of the students were taken to the hospital, Stewart said. They were all released to their parents.

The students will be disciplined according to the Birmingham City Schools Code of Conduct, Stewart said.

Under the policy, possible punishments include suspension and expulsion.
