U.S. News & World Report released its ranking of the best places to live in Alabama based on quality of life, value, desirability and job market factors. Each of those categories included a variety of indicators such as crime and unemployment rate, housing market, quality of available healthcare and data on schools. Coming in at number one was Huntsville, which earlier this year landed on U.S. News & World Report’s list of the Best Places to Live in the U.S., coming in at number two after topping the same list the previous year.
“Once a sleepy farming town, Huntsville gained national recognition during the Space Race of the 1960s and is now consistently among the fastest-growing metro areas in Alabama,” the ranking noted.
Huntsville’s highest score – an 8.2 – came for its affordability.
Number two on the list was Birmingham, which, like Huntsville, received its highest ranking of 7.4 for value. Number three was Montgomery and number four was Mobile.
