38-year-old man killed in weekend shooting in Midfield now identified
Authorities have released the name of a man killed in a weekend shooting in Midfield.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Monday identified the victim as Anthony Derrell Young. He was 38 and lived in Bessemer.
Just before 3 a.m. Saturday, Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 1200 block of Eighth Avenue in Midfield on reports of someone shot during an argument.
Deputies got to the location and found Young suffering from a gunshot wound, said Lt. Joni Money.
Young was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:31 a.m.
Witnesses gave deputies a description of the suspect and his vehicle. He was located moments later and taken into custody.
The 57-year-old suspect was undergoing questioning by detectives. Charges have not yet been announced.
Young is one of two people killed in separate shootings over the weekend in Midfield. A 33-year-old mother – Koko Davis – was fatally shot Saturday night.
