38-year-old man killed in early-morning crash on Interstate 59 in east Birmingham

A Birmingham man died early Thursday morning following a crash on Interstate 59.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the fatality victim as Jumarcus Dejuan Faison. He was 38.

Authorities said Faison was a backseat passenger in a vehicle that was traveling northbound on I-59 just before 12:30 a.m. The wreck happened when the driver swerved to avoid hitting a disabled vehicle that was stopped on the interstate at the Roebuck Parkway exit.

Faison was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:20 a.m.

Birmingham police are investigating.
