30-year-old man kills 34-year-old woman and then himself at Birmingham motel
Authorities have released the names of a man and woman found dead in an apparent murder-suicide in a south Birmingham extended stay motel room.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Monday identified the couple as Britney Nashaye Summerhill, 34, and Jaron Trevell Bishop, 30.
South Precinct officers were dispatched at 12:08 p.m. Saturday to InTown Suites on Oxmoor Road on a report of two people down in a second-floor room.
When police arrived, they found the man and woman unresponsive inside the room. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced them dead on the scene at 12:41 p.m. Saturday.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald said both victims sustained gunshot wounds.
“Detectives have been canvassing the entire property,” he said Saturday. “At this time, we haven’t observed any signs of someone else being in the room with them.”
Fitzgerald said the couple had been staying there a week or longer.
“From what the other guests said, they were quiet and kept to themselves,” he said.
No one reported hearing gunshots overnight. A gun was found near one of the bodies.
Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates said the fatal shooting happened at 7:59 p.m. Friday.
Yates said it appears Bishop shot Summerhill and then turned the gun on himself.
Summerhill is Birmingham’s 29th homicide this year.
