3 wounded when at least 40 shots fired in Birmingham’s Ensley community

An investigation is ongoing after three people were shot overnight in Birmingham.

Just before 10:30 p.m., the city’s gunfire detection system – Shot Spotter – registered at least 40 rounds fired in the 1600 Block of 48th Street in Ensley.

Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said minutes later, a man showed up by private vehicle at Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service Station 15. He had been shot.

The victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

At 10:33 pm, two more men were found wounded in the 1500 Block of 2nd Court West.

Both victims were taken to the hospital by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service. Their injuries were not life-threatening, Wade said.

The preliminary investigation suggests all three victims were shot in the 1600 Block of 48th Street.

No arrests have been announced.
