$3.1 million Boar’s Head deli meat settlement: Who qualifies for payment?
A recall of some 7 million pounds of deli meat has prompted a class action lawsuit and a proposed $3.1 million settlement.
Boar’s Head Provision Co. announced a recall of liverwurst and other deli meats in 2024 due to listeria contamination. Initially, the recall covered some 200,000 pounds of products but it was later expanded to 7 million pounds from its Jarratt, Virginia facility. The products were sold under the Boar’s Head and Old Country brand names.

According to The Hill, a class action lawsuit combined four suits against the company. The settlement, which must still be approved by the court, would establish a $3.1 million fund for payments to eligible class members.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as of November 2024, 61 cases related to the recall were identified in 19 states, including 60 hospitalizations and 10 deaths. Deaths were reported in Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, Florida, Tennessee, New Mexico and South Carolina.
Boar’s Head has denied any wrongdoing.
To be eligible, a customer must have purchased any of the included products between May 10 – Aug. 12, 2024. The deadline to submit a claim is May 16. The final hearing is set for Aug. 13 and, if approved, payments will follow.
The settlement provides a full refund for recalled products if a buyer has proof of purchase. Without proof of purchase, class members receive the average retail price for up to two recalled products.
