2nd Montgomery County Youth Detention officer arrested on sex crimes involving young inmate

A second Montgomery Youth Detention Facility officer has been arrested on sex abuse charges involving a young inmate.

Labradford Jamell Armistad, 35, is charged with seven counts of first-degree sodomy, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office announced Saturday.

The charges stem from the sexual assault of a juvenile in Armistad’s custody, said Assistant Chief Deputy Wesley Richerson.

Armistad was booked into the Montgomery County Detention Facility at 10:12 p.m. Friday and is being held without bond.

Richerson said the investigation is ongoing and to ensure the integrity of the case, no further details are being released.

Sheriff Derrick Cunningham has scheduled a Monday press conference to discuss the arrests of the two officers on the sex charges.

On Thursday, the sheriff’s office announced the arrest of 32-year-old Kentavious Miller on first-degree sexual abuse.

Charging documents state that incident happened between 7:30 and 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15 at the juvenile lockup. That case involved a 14-year-old boy.

Authorities have not said whether the victim or victims in the case against Armistad involved the same boy as the case against Miller.

“The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office will continue to thoroughly investigate and prosecute anyone who abuses their power to harm those that they are responsible for protecting,’’ Richerson said. “We are grateful for the professionalism and expertise of our investigators who have worked diligently on this case.”
