29 dead horses found in north Alabama: Dozens of malnourished dogs, horses confiscated

Authorities in Colbert County are investigating an animal cruelty case after the bodies of at least 29 dead horses were discovered Friday morning.

WAFF is reporting at least 10 horses that appeared undernourished, and 45 dogs, were confiscated from the property.

Members of Colbert County Animal Services and the State Bureau of Investigation are looking into the case in the western part of Colbert County.

Animal Services Director Corey Speegle said the horses and the dogs are being transported to the Colbert County Animal Shelter for treatment.

A post on the center’s Facebook account stated it would be closed today while officials dealt with the case. It also asked for horse feed and hay.
