28-year-old woman dead following southwest Birmingham shooting that injured another

One of two people injured in a southwest Birmingham shooting Wednesday night has died.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Thursday identified the victim as Kayla Alexandria Warren. She was 28 and lived in Birmingham.

The shooting happened at 8:04 p.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of 30th Street S.W.

Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said one of the victims was taken by private vehicle to Princeton Baptist Medical Center. The second was transported to UAB Hospital by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service.

Warren was pronounced dead at UAB Hospital at 10:54 p.m.

Details surrounding the deadly shooting have not yet been released. There was also a report of shots fired into a nearby occupied home.

Warren is the city’s 103rd homicide this year. Of those, eight have been ruled justifiable and therefore aren’t deemed criminal.

In all of Jefferson County, there have been 130 homicides including the 103 in Birmingham.
