26-year-old identified as man found shot to death in southwest Birmingham ditch
A man found slain in a ditch off of a southwest Birmingham road has now been identified.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday identified the victim as Tommie Lee Brown. He was 26 and lived in Birmingham.
West Precinct officers were dispatched at 6:37 a.m. Sunday to a report of a person down.
Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said police got to the scene at 50th Street S.W. and Park Avenue and found the victim unresponsive in a ditch on the side of the road. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 6:45 a.m.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office determined the victim had been shot. A passerby made the discovery.
Brown is the city’s 87th homicide victim this year. Of those, one was an officer involved shooting by an outside law enforcement agency and seven others have been ruled justified and therefore aren’t deemed criminal.
In all of Jefferson County, there have been 120 homicides including the 87 in Birmingham.
