$25,000 reward offered in 2020 Birmingham murder of US Army recruiter
The U.S. Army’s Criminal Investigation Division is offering a $25,000 reward for information in the 2020 Birmingham murder of a recruiter.
U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Tristian Jackson was shot to death in the garage of his mother’s home on Jan. 8, 2020.
The deadly shooting happened just before 9:30 p.m. He died, just feet from his 4-year-old daughter, at a Killough Springs Road address.
Jackson, who had custody of his daughter, picked her up after school and again after gymnastics that day before heading to Birmingham from Montgomery where he was an Army recruiter.
On the way to his mother’s house, Tristian picked up his mother’s sister and her grandbaby.
When they got to the home, he unloaded their bags and was about to shower. Before doing so, however, he decided to move his car into the garage. That was when he was shot. Jackson was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Jackson was later buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
The Fairfield High Preparatory School student graduated in 2001 and went straight into the Army as a military police soldier. He later served in Germany before joining the Montgomery Recruiting Battalion. He had been in the military for 18 years at the time of his death.
Special Agent Ken Howell, from the CID Mid-Central Field Office in Fort Campbell, Ky., said CID is collaborating with Birmingham police and other agencies.
“Our efforts to investigate this on a federal level demonstrate that CID, and our partner agencies, will relentlessly pursue those responsible for his death and see they are brought to justice,” Howell said.
