22-year-old woman critically injured in shooting at Tuscaloosa apartment; suspect charged

A woman is in stable but critical condition after an overnight shooting in Tuscaloosa.

Tuscaloosa police responded at 10 p.m. Wednesday to The Lofts at City Center apartments on a disturbance call.

They arrived to find the 22-year-old victim had been shot multiple times, said Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Capt. Marty Sellers.

The investigation showed that the victim and several other people were at the apartment, including Larry Jones Jr.

An argument began during which Jones became aggressive toward the victim and began a physical altercation, Sellers said. The two did not know each other.

“The victim was ultimately shot during the scuffle and suffered life-threatening injuries,’’ Sellers said.

Jones is charged with attempted murder. He is being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail.

Sellers said more charges could be filed.
