A 22-year-old man drowned in Lake Martin last week, authorities announced Monday.

Tallapoosa County Sheriff Jimmy Abbett identified the victim as David Bryon Carter. He lived in Monroeville.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched just before 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, to a residence on Lake Martin’s Whiskey Ridge near Dadeville.

Abbott said there were severe weather – including lightning – taking place at the time.

First responders recovered Carter’s body about 30 minutes later.

The Union Fire Department, Tallapoosa EMS, the Alexander City Rescue Squad, and the Tallapoosa County Coroner’s Office assisted in the investigation.
