A young Tuscaloosa man was killed in a crash during what authorities say was street racing on Interstate 59/20.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the fatality victim as George Edward Bishop III. He was 22.

The crash happened at 8 a.m. Sunday on I-59/20 near Fairfield.

Authorities said Bishop reportedly lost control of his vehicle during a street racing incident. No other vehicles were involved in the wreck.

Bishop was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:43 a.m. Monday.

The crash remains under investigation by Alabama State Troopers.
