22-year-old Birmingham man charged in shooting death of his uncle
A Birmingham man was taken into custody Thursday morning in connection with the fatal shooting of his uncle.
Braxton Lewis, 22, is charged with murder in the Oct. 26 slaying of 41-year-old Kevin J. Davis.
Davis was found dead about 6 a.m. that Thursday when West Precinct officers responded to a call of a person down in the 300 block of Lexington Street in Wylam.
Police discovered Davis unresponsive on the side of the roadway. He was pronounced dead on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service.
Police initially said the death was unclassified. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office later concluded Davis had been shot.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald said detectives obtained the murder warrant against Lewis on Nov. 29.
The department’s Crime Reduction Team, Narcotics Unit, and the FBI arrested Lewis today in the 3700 Block of 9th Avenue Wylam.
Additional details about the killing, including a possible motive, have not been released.
Lewis was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 9:37 a.m. and remains held without bond.
